Are you looking for the hottest kids toys for this Christmas? The holiday shopping season is in full swing and already the hot kids toys for Christmas are sold out in the stores. Don’t panic because these very same toys that you can’t find in the stores are still readily available online. This will only be true though if you don’t wait any longer and get your order in now.

So what toys are we actually talking about? The Fashionista Barbies were the first toy reported to be flying off the shelves. Fashionista’s are adorable dolls that are very fashion conscious. Each doll has their own style and personality which is displayed with their clothing and accessories. For example, the Sassy Doll is a very trendy rock and roller with pink streaks in her hair, short boots, and a rock and roll inspired outfit to match. Each doll comes with its own fashion accessory (like a purse). This is such a fun gift for girls that you won’t want to pass it up.

The Zhu Zhu Hamster’s are another one of the top kids toys that are incredibly popular this year. They’re just about impossible to find in the stores but this is something that you will want to track down because kids go crazy for them. Zhu Zhu’s chatter, coo, and purr when you love them and pet them. They scoot and scamper all over the floor and will amuse everyone in the room. You can buy them their own little habitat to live in and teach the kids the responsibilities of pet ownership. Don’t let your kids miss out on the fun!

In the game category, the Mattel Mindflex is an amazing game of mental concentration where the headset that you strap around your head monitors your brain waves. By mentally focusing, concentrating, and then relaxing your mind, you’re able to move a foam ball through a pre-set obstacle course. This great game can be played by yourself or in groups. Test your accuracy and speed, or just try to get through a course. This is a tough game to get your hands on so don’t wait much longer to order.

There are many great toys for sale this year. Even though some of the top kids toys for Christmas are already sold out in the stores, there is still an opportunity for you to buy them online. Take advantage of the free shipping that’s being offered now!

A fascinating study commissioned by brokerage Charles Schwab investigating how teenagers’ treat money and debt has been grabbing the headlines in the United States, and contains some findings that we in the UK could do well to consider.

The survey entitled “Teens and Money, 2008” has highlighted American teenagers' casual approach to debt and interestingly suggests that their habits could be learned from an early age, playing board and computer games and with other toys that incorporate credit cards as an integral part of the fun. Some commentators in the States have gone so far as to suggest that games and other gifts send the wrong message to children about money.

As the results of the survey are from American teenagers, it would be interesting to duplicate the research here in the UK. The survey produced results which have certainly got parents and child experts talking:

- 51% of teenagers agree that it’s easier to buy things with credit cards

- Given the choice almost 1 in 3 teenagers would prefer to buy with a credit card

- Teens are motivated by parent’s behaviour, 25% saying that their parents are more likely to use a credit card than cash

- 29% of teens are already in debt

One US radio host Dave Ramsey is certain that toys such as Dora the Explorer and Barbie action figures carrying their own credit cards are now sending out all the wrong messages. “It’s out of control!” he raged. “McDonalds recently gathered a focus group that identified anyone using a credit card at the restaurant would spend almost 47% more than those using cash. And what’s one of the toys released in time for Christmas this year? A McDonald’s cash register that teaches kids how to use credit cards.

"As a parent we can’t get mad at Dora or Barbie, but we need to step back and think what message we’re sending to our kids,” warns Ramsey. He does not believe that rampant commercialisation of toys such as Game of Life, which is sponsored by Visa in the States help, nor does the adaptation of traditional games such as Monopoly to incorporate a credit card deals within the game."

But, it remains to be seen whether this US commentator’s concerns are applicable in the UK. Credit cards are yet to be introduced as an accessory for Barbie, and thankfully the UK electronic bank version of Monopoly uses only debit cards, which is a more responsible approach and one that Ramsey would certainly applaud. In the UK we are certainly a long from having Action Man and Barbie sit down and compare credit cards in their wallets, which might not be the case in the US.

Do you ever find yourself running out of ideas of things to do with your kids?  Most parents know that children get bored quite easily.  Our lives are filled with things to keep us entertained, but sometimes you hit a lull in the activity, and the kids are ready to do something fun.

Many folks will rely on the television for a built-in babysitter.  That is fine from time to time, but most of us do not want our children to become dependent on the over-stimulating TV.  We want them to learn to be entertained in other ways as well.

By far, the best choice is for us to actually play with our kids.

Now, how old your children are impacts the activities you can do.  Try to avoid doing the same things over and over again.  It takes effort to get up from the couch and do something.  One of the best things you can do is write a little list of things that they like to do, and refresh your memory with it when you hit one of those boring down times.

Personally, my children enjoy hide and seek.  It's free, easy, and has no time constraints.  A game can be as short as 5 minutes, or we can play for an hour.  Sometimes, just for some spontaneous fun, in the middle of watching TV, I'll start counting really loudly.  They know to scramble and hide right away, and the chase is on!  Tag is another good freebie if you have the numbers for it, but it can be a little loud and rough and may be better suited for outdoors.
The following list gives free, simple activities that can be done either indoor or outdoor.  Use this to get started, then add ideas of your own. (Or even ask your kids!)

Indoor:
- card games, or their favorite board game
- hide-and seek
- download free coloring pages, and color with them
- do charades, helping them out depending on their age
- do an item hunt.  Hide their favorite toys, dolls, or even use a card deck and hide the cards around.  Use the "warmer/colder" way of assisting them.
- make up a story.  Start the adventure, and ask them what they think the characters should do next.  Go with it.  Be creative, silly, and goofy.  If you're clever, you can even work out some good moral values to weave into the story.
- Have rubber band wars, after building forts out of sofa cushions and blankets.

Outdoor:
- tag
- toss a ball
- throw a Frisbee
- do an item hunt, but outside
- Use chalk to draw on the driveway or sidewalk
- play hide and seek, or "sardines" (where one person hides, and as people find the hider, they hide with them)

We have a responsibility to interact with our children, and playing is healthy for them and for us.  But sometimes we just need a little boost with some ideas.

Anyone who has children or can remember his or her own childhood days is familiar with the concept of pretend play, which is a type of activity where a young child begins to role play. Typically emerging in the second year of life, such imaginative play may be much more than just an amusing activity for toddlers. Some research has suggested that role playing may be an important developmental milestone in small children and may assist in the development of cognitive, verbal, and social skills.

Many parents may experience frustration when their child shows little or no interest in learning to count, to sing the alphabet, and other academic prerequisites that they will need in the upcoming years. Especially frustrating is their tendencey to avoid all instruction in favor of pretending to be monsters, superheroes or even people they know. Parents can be reassured that imaginative play is not merely an idle endeavor with no redeeming values; indeed, experts are now saying that the ability to roll play and pretend may be more important than the ability to count or recite the alphabet at such a young age. Playing imagination games helps the young brain order the world around him or her and teaches the young child how to empathize and interact with others. Instead of trying to redirect the child's energy into activities that they deem more constructive, parents should instead encourage and participate in such games.

Pretend play can come in many forms. Young boys will frequently engage in such activity as pretending to be warriors, carpenters, truck drivers, and football players. In the hands of an imaginative youngster a broom handle becomes a sword, a paper towel roll can be a hammer, and so on. Likewise, little girls often engage in such forms of play by playing with dolls and doll houses. Doll houses are particularly strong outlets of pretend play since they allow the child to have complete control over a mini universe. The child with a doll house can rearrange furniture, cook dinner, put the baby to bed, and do all of the activities that she observes her parents do every day.

Roll playing and other sorts of imaginative games are a vital component of the education of any young child. He or she uses such play time not simply for idle fancy, but as a way to understand societal roles, relationships, and his or her place in the world. Key cognitive and communication skills depend upon the ability to successfully roll play, so parents should encourage such activities. Of course, it is also important for parents to read to young children and introduce them to numbers, shapes, colors, and letters. However, academic learning must share time with imaginative play to ensure that the child continues to develop successfully.

Do you have a kid who likes to play with guns and war games on your PC? For sure you are bothered of the violence that these war elements give your kid. Well you should but not to the extent that you force your kid to stay away from it. Maybe your kid is starting to develop an eagerness of becoming a soldier someday. If this is the case you better support him and unleash that dream of your boy. You can give him a military cap or military inspired clothes or gears that resemble the real military tactical gears. The molding of a good soldier usually starts at younger age so better start it now with your kid.

Military tactical gears and camo gears are not only for the big boys, but for the kids too. The younger generations or should I say the future soldiers can now feel like the full-grown and real military men. The kids too can wear all the clothes, gears, and accessories that was once only for the big boys. The kids will no longer try to use the military jacket of their fathers that fits them as a coverall and almost runs down their feet. And the fathers who are rushing for an operation will never go crazy gaga looking for the headgear that the kid snatched from their closet. The kids can have their own that fits them well so they don’t have to borrow from their parents.

The military supplies and surplus shops do not only sell military issue and surplus equipments. They also specialize in sales of camo gears and military inspired kids clothing and accessories such as jackets, pants, coverall, and even patches or insignias. Sorry kids but no guns for sale. You can ask your father for a toy gun but the real gun is a big no no.

It is easy to under-estimate the educational benefits of play time. By the time we become adults, most of us have been indoctrinated with the philosophy of no pain, no gain. But research shows play time for kids can help with development of important skills. Studies have linked pretend play to children’s mathematic readiness, linguistic abilities, cognitive functioning, impulse control, and problem-solving skills. Pretend play is a crucial factor in a child’s cognitive development.

With that stated, the burden then falls on parents to help kids get the most from their play time by providing them with the right toys that can facilitate learning. This article explains 4 ways that wooden train sets can help kids develop cognitive skills.

Kids train sets are available from brands like Thomas Tank Engine and Melissa and Doug. These sets offer many different challenges for kids. Here are 3 ways these toys promote cognitive development:

1. Problem solving skills are honed during pretend play as kids attempt to find solutions for the problems they encounter every day. Thomas wooden railway and other wooden train sets come with track pieces and bridges that have to be put together so the trains can run down the track with structures and other figures in position around the track. Kids have to come up with a plan for the track layout, find the right pieces and fit them together to complete the plan.

2. Playing with pretend toys such as a Thomas Wooden Railway helps children develop social skills. As they recreate scenes from their everyday lives, they act out the socially appropriate behavior in those scenes. Thomas Tank Engine is a known character seen on the PBS television series. Thomas has his own distinct personality with positive character traits like hard work and honesty. When playing with character toys such as Thomas Tank Engine, kids negotiate the roles of each toy within a particular scene, again learning about socially appropriate behavior. When playing with friends, they collaborate together as the plan, build and share together. In the process they learn to accept and respect the opinions and ideas of others.

3. Thomas Wooden Railway can also help develop the linguistic competence of children. Children are naturally expressive. Often, with minimal prompting, children will enjoy telling other adults and children about their imaginations. As they learn new words to describe their imaginations, they will expand their vocabulary, as well as their overall command of language.

4. Pretend play, with or without character toys like Thomas Tank Engine, also improves children’s academic skills and academic potential. Pretend play first gives children a solid command of many academic subjects, though on a basic children’s level. They learn about patterns, ordering, and other basics of mathematics by playing with different toys of different colors, shapes, and sizes. They learn about balance, gravity, and physics as they stack toys on top of each other. They learn about language as they describe their imaginations. Knowledge formed during pretend play also provides a solid foundation for future academic studies. As children grow older and leave their pretend play behind, they will be learning about more advanced levels of every major academic subject. The deep understanding of basic mathematics, science, and language gained during early pretend play will aid the students as they pursue a higher level of mathematics, science, or language.

In addition to cognitive skills, pretend play also provides physical benefits. As children lift and move toys around the Thomas wooden railway track, they develop their muscles. In turn, they improve their hand-eye coordination and balance, as well as their fine motor skills. Improved physical health is directly correlated with improved cognitive skills.

Pretend play, supplemented by character toys like Thomas Tank Engine, provides many educational benefits. Although these benefits cannot be measured quantitatively, they facilitate overall child development.
