Mattel toy company introduced the original Barbie doll in 1959 with a price tag of $3.00. After fifty years as reigning queen of the toy industry, a vintage Barbie in mint condition will garner over $3,000. A vintage Barbie doll is one that was produced from 1959 to 1972. A modern Barbie is a doll manufactured from 1973 to present. The modern Barbie dolls that are designed by Byron Lars are always in heavy demand, and once they are no longer available from the manufacturer can only be purchased on-line or from private Barbie collectors and they sell for several hundreds of dollars.
